How to re-create expandable search box/field?

Hi folks, great to be here! I have previously built a few sites with Divi, but that was several years ago, so I'm totally new to Divi 5... and Divi University and KrafterPRO have been great resources so far.

I like the header menu example included with KrafterPRO, which is also featured on the diviuniversity.com website... where a search icon, when clicked, expands into a text field which hides the other menu items.

Is there a way, or any existing tutorials, for me to create this scenario outside of a menu module? For example, rather than use a menu module with the search toggle on, I would like a column with two individually styled buttons and then a search icon (all flowing left to right) - then, when the search icon is clicked I'd like to animate in a styled search field that obscures the two buttons on the left.

Can anyone help nudge me in the right direction with this?
