One problem I have come across using pre-made layouts: trying to override their coding to allow working with variables effectively. In the end, after hours of trying, I gave up, especially after reading that this is to be expected working with templates.
So how would you save all your presets to work on other websites. is this where a child theme will help?

Yes, while I love using layouts, how do I edit them, maybe not globally, but yeah - how can I override those settings. to adapt them to my client's needs. thanks
Sometimes you need to actually dig into the php, not just the CSS to override the template settings. Which of course defeats most of us using DIVI because it is accessible for non-programmers. I have tried a new approach when importing a template using DIVI 5 now, not importing the global settings. That seems to work slightly better, overriding the templates' globals. And: child themes are the cat's meow :)
