Update to newest Design System 3.1.3 Changes all my color
Mak . I just updated the Design System to version 3.1.3 and selected Merge so I wouldn’t lose the settings and presets I used to build the site.
After the update, some of the colors had changed, including to purple. How did that happen?
Choosing Merge shouldn’t change anything that is already being used on the site. It becomes quite cumbersome if we need to take a full backup of every site each time there’s an update to the Design System or the plugin.
Hi Mathias, Thats fair complaint, and the naming is on me.
Here's what Merge actually does: it matches incoming variables to yours by name. Same name → the value gets updated to the new one. New name → added. That's deliberate it's what stops every re-import duplicating your palette but it does mean that if 3.1.3 changed the hex on a colour whose name matches one you're using, your site picks up the new value.
So "Merge" means no duplicates, not no changes. That distinction isn't clear enough in the UI or the docs, and that's my failure, not yours. I'm changing the wording and making the import screen say plainly which existing variables will be overwritten.
You don't need a full site backup.
KrafterPRO writes a snapshot before the import. Go to KrafterPRO → Rollback, pick the snapshot from immediately before the 3.1.3 import, and restore. Then fully close and reopen the Visual Builder Divi caches variables aggressively and a refresh alone won't show it.
Going forward, the safe path on a live site: run the import Preview first. It lists exactly what would be Added vs Updated before anything is written. If a colour you rely on shows as Updated, rename yours first and Merge will leave it alone.
One thing I want to confirm rather than guess at: which colour names went purple?
If you can paste the import summary line (the Add/Updated counts) or just the variable names, I'll check them against 3.1.3 directly. If something turned purple that isn't purple in 3.1.3, that's a broken reference and a different bug and I want it caught today.

I've had that issue too. I always reject the colors when merging.
